Xinan Pandan is an activist, community organizer, DJ, and artist. Xinans artistic activities include works on paper (charcoal, aquarelle, silkscreen) and poetry (writing, images, sound). Xinan Pandan is concerned with feminist and non-binary perspectives, founded the podcast Diaspor.Asia and organizes performance evenings, festivals, parties, and workshops.
“The current global crisis deepens the marginalization and systemic oppression of racialized groups in Germany, especially when considering the intersections of gender, disability and class.”
The exhibit Home Is Where Your Chosen Family Is consists of a series of digital drawings and canvases with accompanying short texts and poems. The images show people facing each other in a moment of calm and letting go, an artistic examination of the questions of who belongs to a community and who is excluded, how to deal with conflicts, dismantle power structures, make spaces accessible, and respond to the needs of others. Xinan Pandan draws an emotional landscape of life as a non-binary artist who defines home as a place of longing for rest, belonging, security, and solidarity within a self-chosen family.
